Because HALTER is a PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) member-center, volunteers are required to receive training before they are able to work with the program. Only those 14 or older are allowed to work directly with clients. Experience and knowledge of horses is not necessary.
Training covers the basics of working with people with disabilities, horse handling and volunteer responsibilities. Our training class is a good introduction for riding instructors and therapists interested in pursuing further education in therapeutic riding.

VOLUNTEERING AT HALTER
This program is for volunteers 10 to 13 years of age. They cannot help with our clients in the arena, but they are very valuable as they can groom, tack, and assist with the horses outside the arena. Pony Pals must attend HALTER's Volunteer Orientation and a Pony Pal Training before they become volunteers; this will enable them to interact with our horses safely. Pony Pals are required to have an active parent or guardian that will supervise and participate with Pony Pal Volunteer activities. Experience and knowledge of horses is not necessary.
